Clean Truck Check Credentialed Testers

Is Your Heavy-Duty Vehicle Ready for California's Clean Truck Check?

California requires most heavy-duty vehicles to pass an annual Clean Truck Check emissions test to ensure their emissions control systems are working properly.

This program applies to diesel and alternative fuel vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 14,000 pounds that operate on California roads and highways—even if the vehicle is registered in another state.

Vehicles that may require testing include:

  • Commercial trucks

  • Public agency vehicles (federal, state, and local government)

  • Motorcoaches

  • Transit, shuttle, and school buses

  • Hybrid heavy-duty vehicles

  • Personal heavy-duty vehicles

  • California-registered motorhomes

  • Single-vehicle fleets

  • Out-of-state vehicles operating in California (excluding motorhomes)

Important Information

Beginning January 1, 2025, all compliance deadlines require a passing emissions test as part of the Clean Truck Check program.

  • Testing must be performed by a CARB Credentialed Tester.

  • Passing test results can be submitted up to 90 days before your compliance deadline.

  • Early testing allows time to complete any needed repairs before your deadline.

Failure to comply may result in:

  • DMV registration holds

  • Enforcement actions

  • Potential penalties
